Chefalos for Crossnore

Shenandoah Chefalo, author of Garbage Bag Suitcase: A Memoir, is a fierce advocate for children in foster care. She is also a great friend of Crossnore School & Children’s Home. Shen has shared her story with our students as a speaker at Williams Academy graduation. She also graciously gives of her time and online presence to promote the mission of Crossnore through her contacts and social media accounts.

This year, Shen, her husband, Gerry, and their daughter, Sophia, are embarking on an adventure to Mt. Kilimanjaro. They are using their trip to continue putting a spotlight on the foster care crisis. Read the flyer below to find out about the Chefalos’ upcoming trip and how they are using it to support Crossnore.

Racism is Trauma

Crossnore School & Children’s Home exists to be a sanctuary for children and their families and racism destroys sanctuary. Racism is trauma and is part of systemic community trauma that has long term negative impacts on people and communities of color. Crossnore believes that black lives matter, and we are committed to building an anti-racist organization and supporting the development of racial equity in our communities.
