Giving to Crossnore

There are many ways you can give to Crossnore, and our goal is to make it as easy as possible.

Biggerstaff Bikes

There is no better example of the power of a volunteer relationship than the story of Glenda and Bob Biggerstaff’s connection to Crossnore Communities for Children.

Funding priorities

The Crossnore Promise Scholarship program represents Crossnore’s promise to deliver state-of-the-art services to children and families in western North Carolina. The only way to achieve this is through the financial support of donors like you.

Bridge Scholarships help “bridge the gap” between what the Department of Social Services pays and the actual cost to house and provide supportive holistic services for our residential students. Bridge Scholarships make possible things like spiritual life, recreation opportunities, and travel.

Examples of Support

  • $18,000 bridges the gap for one residential student for one year.
  • $4,500 supports one child for three months living on one of our two campuses.
  • $1,500 provides funding for one residential child for one month.

Thrive Scholarships provide support for children who are uninsured or under-insured, but in need of outpatient clinical therapy services. Crossnore therapists are trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, individual and family counseling, as well as group therapy.

Examples of Support

  • $2,500 provides 25 trauma-focused clinical sessions throughout one year for one child.
  • $600 makes six sessions with a licensed therapist possible for a child.
  • $200 makes possible two sessions for a child in need.

Discover Scholarships fund Adventure-Based Counseling (ABC) services for children who are Crossnore clients. ABC is a group counseling program that utilizes experiential learning with engaging activities that help participants develop strong social skills and achieve personal growth. These specialized services are entirely funded through private donations.

Examples of Support

  • $1,000 provides two ABC group sessions for six to 10 children.
  • $500 gives 10 children an opportunity to participate in the high ropes course.
  • $100 supports five children using the climbing wall to build trust and self-confidence.

Donation Levels

$25 – provides one half-hour music lesson

$50 – provides a new pair of shoes for one child

$100 – provides school uniforms for one child

$250 – provides a summer camp experience for one child

$500 – provides a weekend excursion for one cottage

Giving societies

The Crossnore Promise Scholarship program represents Crossnore’s promise to deliver state-of-the-art services to children and families in western North Carolina. The only way to achieve this is through the financial support of donors like you.

The Circle of Friends was established in 2019 to recognize donors who support Crossnore Communities for Children on a monthly basis. These donors have given consecutively for twelve months or more and receive a special gift upon inclusion in the Circle, as well as recognition in HOPE, our annual report, and special benefits throughout the year from Crossnore.

When your first donation is received, we will send you a special gift.

A donor-advised fund receives donations from donors who make their tax-deductible donations at a public charity fund such as Fidelity Charitable, BNY Mellon Charitable Gift Fund, or Schwab Charitable. As the donor-advised fund grows, the donor can then recommend grants to any IRS-qualified public charity. If you have a donor-advised fund at Fidelity, BNY Mellon, or Schwab, you can easily use the widget to the right to recommend a grant be given to Crossnore Communities for Children.

To make a gift through another charitable investment account, such as The Winston-Salem Foundation or Foundation for the Carolinas, please contact your fund administrator directly.

Contributing appreciated securities offers significant tax advantages. If you have owned the shares for more than one year, you may deduct their full fair market value as a charitable contribution and bypass capital gains taxes. Please contact your financial advisor for more information regarding the benefits of transferring securities to Crossnore Communities for Children.

For transfer instructions, please contact Caroline Hart, Chief External Relations Officer.

Crossnore Communities for Children accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. Make your gift online today! Donate by credit card.

Many companies will match their employee’s charitable gift. You may be able to double or even triple the impact of your gift if your company has this program. Check with your company’s human resources department to see if there is a matching gifts program.

If you are interested in donating personal property to Crossnore Communities for Children, please contact Caroline Hart, Chief External Relations Officer. Some gifts will require a certified appraisal or advance approval in order to be accepted.
