Young Life at Crossnore

by

At The Crossnore School, community partnerships play a vital role in providing extra experiences for our students, who come from a variety of backgrounds and who have a variety of needs. These partnerships often begin when a local agency or group sees a need and offers to fill it for us.

Young Life is just such an organization whose goal is to build relationships with teenagers…authentic friendships that offer support and encouragement as a teen navigates the growing up years. When local Young Life leader August Short approached Crossnore Campus Pastor Logan Thrasher, a “common heart movement” began to an informal spiritual life component to our teens.

The goal is to provide another avenue for our students to encounter Christ, to be exposed to more caring adults, and to build community among the teens through a shared meal, some fun games, and a time for singing and devotions.   – Pastor Logan

Currently Young Life is meeting on The Crossnore School campus once a month with the intention of moving to twice a month next year. Each meeting consists of time to hang out, eat, and play some games. During the devotional time, the teens sing songs from pop culture as well as spiritual songs and then hear a short devotional from one of the adults involved. The devotional topic usually stems from the speaker’s personal experience with a connection to a Biblical truth that has practical application to our lives today.

I didn’t want to go at first…but then I got there and had a blast. I hate being proven wrong!

When asked what help might be needed for Young Life, Pastor Logan said, “Prayer. And more adults to be involved.” You can contact Logan Thrasher for more information about Young Life at Crossnore, or to find out more about volunteering, contact Courtney Lane at 828-733-4305.
