The goal of the Adult Summer Arts Program is to foster a deep connection between The Crossnore Weaving Room and Fine Arts Gallery and the surrounding community. Our mission is to host a series of arts focused workshops to promote connection and awareness through community engagement, while nurturing the strong historical and educational connection of Crossnore to the community.

COPTIC STITCH SUMMER JOURNAL

Class Description
Create a unique and personalized fine art quality, hardcover journal, bound using coptic stitch in this one day workshop. While this workshop will provide some structured focus on book binding techniques, we will also nurture creative play and expression through mixed media collage. Mixing collage elements and varying weights of handmade art paper will be used for journal covers, interiors, and signatures. Students will leave the workshop with a handmade, one of a kind functional work of art for summer journaling. Registration is required. All materials included with class registration fee. Space is limited. Examples on display in the weaving room. Class registration Fee $150.
TRADITIONAL BASKETRY I

Class Description
The first in a series of workshops to learn the traditional art of basket weaving. This class will emphasize the historical and cultural significance of basket weaving, and explore different regional styles and materials. Students will create a traditional “gathering basket” using a variety of natural and dyed flat reeds. Each gathering basket will be finished off with a sturdy oak handle. Registration is required. All materials included with class registration fee. Space is limited. Examples on display in the weaving room.Class registration Fee $150.

A Legacy of Weaving
Crossnore Weavers, located on our Avery campus, was created to preserve the Appalachian art of hand-weaving, to give an economic opportunity to women, and to promote Crossnore Communities for Children through the sale of beautiful hand-woven goods all over the world.
