Crossnore School & Children’s Home exists to be a sanctuary for children and their families and racism destroys sanctuary. Racism is trauma and is part of systemic community trauma that has long term negative impacts on people and communities of color. Crossnore believes that black lives matter, and we are committed to building an anti-racist organization and supporting the development of racial equity in our communities. Crossnore believes that individual and community healing is possible, and we commit to working toward healing.
Part of our Sanctuary model of care is the 7 Commitments. Our Evolve committee has written these commitments through an anti-racist lens to help guide our internal work to ensure that we are operating as an anti-racist organization. Click HERE to read these updated commitments.
The image below is shared from ACES Connection. It shows the three realms of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), in the home, community, and environment. Racial injustice increases the toxic stress that children and adults feel from these ACEs.
